There is no better way to end the year than with a little dance and lots of Christmas spirit so this year we wrapped it all in one with our Nutcracker workshop – Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy.
Inspired by Tchaikovsky’s original score, The Nutcracker is an iconic festive ballet set on Christmas Eve. The story unfolds through the eyes of a young girl named Clara, who falls asleep at the foot of the Christmas tree and dreams that her new Nutcracker doll has grown life sized.
Together they embark on a series of adventures, including a battle with giant mice and their Mouse King, a journey through a snowflake filled forest and finally arriving in Land of the Sweets where they are greeted by its queen, the Sugar Plum Fairy.
The principal role in the ballet, the Sugar Plum Fairy is a beautiful, powerful and benevolent ruler. The choreography for her variation is exquisitely precise, delicate and feminine to emulate the confectionary that makes up her kingdom.
Together with co-founder Lisha, our dancers perfected this sweet solo and performed for their family, friends and BalletBody community on the final day of the workshop before we kicked off our studio Christmas party!
